The Volunteers of Lifetime Networks:

Lifetime Networks needs a large body of dedicated volunteers to carry out its day to day work and to ensure the continuity of the organization. We especially want to highlite the help that our volunteers have given and are giving towards our success and our continuing growth.

This web page is dedicated to the hard working volunteers of LNO.

Are You Interested in Volunteering at LNO?. If you have a few hours a week, or a month, to assist in the office, or with fundraising , or in Communications. If you think you have some particular expertise or some special skill that you think might be of value to our efforts, please call. You can contact us by telephone at : 613-742-7162  or by e mail at: LNO@lifetimenetworks.ca. We will be happy to talk with you.

History - Some of our past volunteers

The first volunteer to be mentioned is Katherine Hanington. She is from Ottawa University and we met her at the Job Fair held in March 2002. She was such a help to the social committee. On the day of the social Katherine came to Lakeside Gardens and helped with the decorating, served punch to families as they arrived, helped wherever and whenever needed during the evening and served soft drinks during the dancing marathon. We were so lucky to have her help that day and would like to applaud her.

William Hough - who among other things, is a specialist in organizational strategies and filing systems, came into LNO at the request of Kathleen to look at the LNO filing system in particular and to make recommendations for improvement and change if needed. Thanks for taking the time to advise Bill. Your expertise and wonderful manner are really appreciated.

Jean Pegg RN and former high school friend of Kathleen together with Mary Woodard spent 6 hours one day doing everything from labeling magazines and Q&A's to organizing individual files. What would LNO do without these wonderful people. Many Thanks.

A special thanks to George MacKenzie, husband of LNO facilitator, Sylvia MacKenzie who laboured for hours over the tape of Vickie Cammack's seminar on the Art of Facilitation presented on April 4, 2002 at Ben Franklin Place. George did his best to salvage what he could as the microphone wasn't working well and the interfering noise in the room made the auditory reception very difficult to hear. George has produced about 7 videos of this presentation which are now available for viewing in the Family Resource Library, room 407 at 1390 Prince of Wales Drive or they can be borrowed by calling the office at 748-7162 and reserving one to take home for a couple of days. Thanks George for sharing your expertise.

Also a special thanks to Angie Petti and Frances Nehme, two of LNO facilitators for taking time out of their busy schedules to video tape Vickie's presentation. If it wasn't for their initiative and combined effort, LNO wouldn't even have this resource that is now available to you. Thanks to Frances and Angie.

One more Volunteer that we need to mention is Troy Macfarlane. Troy comes to LNO with a lot of Information Technology skills, Marketing skills, and general business skills. His visit to the LNO office to share his expertise in marketing the LNO concept to families and the community in general with our new summer student Allison Mac Donald was very much appreciated. Allison is now in the process of developing a marketing plan and implementing some of Toy's wonderful suggestions. Thanks to Troy!

The Web Site team, from year 2000 to the Current Team:

The LNO Web site is a constantly changing and evolving resource, as it should be. But as such, it needs constant care and feeding to stay current and relevant to the members. Therefore we especially want to thank those who initially developed the site and those who now are caring for it as it evolves:

Thanks to Kit and son Nathan Dinning, part of the initial group of families who were responsible for getting LNO started here in Ottawa, for the complex effort of developing the very first LNO Web Site.

A special thanks to Greg Lobb, a social science student at Carleton University, with an interest in Web Site development and who is also an personal support worker for one of LNO's focus persons. Greg began in 2001 to manage and maintain the web site and took on the task to further develop the concept started by the Dinning family, resulting in a very professional looking web site. Great job, Greg!

Then in 2002, Fred Smart, an LNO parent, retired communications engineer and an annual associate member came on board to offer his talent and skills to LNO's web site. Fred is the current on-site team leader and Web Site manager, spending time every week to update, improve and manage the site. Fred arranged the move of the site in 2002 to a new hosting service, which has a wide range of new capabilities, needed in order to be able to completely redesign the site to take advantage of new features.

Fred worked with Geoff Jordan - a network member for brother Chris, and son of Kathleen and Bill Jordan, living in Toronto and who happens to be an experienced a Web Page designer, and graphic artist (check out his Web Site at www.rubbertincan.ca.) to pick the new hosting service. Geoff volunteered to redesign the site using updated methods as well as to take best advantage of the features of the new hosting service.

Geoff designed the graphics and created the templates and then handed over to Chris Smart - sibling, potential network member and also living in Toronto(and who is Fred Smart's son). Chris, who is a new Programmer/Analyst graduate, kindly volunteered to assist the development of the new site by transferring all the detailed content from the current site , testing and setting up the links and helping Fred in the cut-over to the new site. Chris has also offerred to assist in maintaining and updating the site from time to time.

Thanks to all of you for your dedications and contribution to LNO!

When Stephen Kidd moved his family to Ottawa, he and his wife had been a PLAN members for several years and wanted to get involved right away. While settling into his new community Stephen offered to begin by helping with the website and is always exploring ways of making it more informative and helpful.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS:

We want to say a special thanks to the many volunteers who help us in the day to day running and logistics of the office:

Barbara Percy: - A retired teacher, friend and advocate of LNO, and long time friend of Kathleen Jordan's (from the 60's would you believe?) is now volunteering in the office one day a week (except for the summer months when she and husband Don enjoy their cottage on Lake MacDonald in the Laurentians). Barb has been in invaluable addition to the LNO office and provides much needed support to Kathleen and to the organization. Come in and visit the Family Resource Library - Room 407 at 1390 Prince of Wales Drive and enjoy some of the fruits of Barb's labour.

Don Percy: - Also a retired teacher and husband of Barb ( when we hook them we hook the family) is a community volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society among many other endeavours including "carpenter par excellence". Don donated his time and materials to create a workable desk and computer space for Kathleen and her associates.

Mary Woodard and Anne Renaud: - Retired Federal Government employees with years of office and management experience have come in to help with whatever tasks present them on that day. They are not choosey and will do what ever is asked of them. They are sisters and have been friends of Kathleen Jordan's since high school - now that's a long time. See how valuable relationships can be!

Susan Proctor: - Is a parent and annual associate member of LNO who has much office and management experience and generously volunteers her time when available (she does have a full time job and a family to look after). Her professional expertise and commitment to the organization is very much appreciated.

BOARD MEMBERS AND OFFICERS OF THE CORPORATION:

It goes without saying that each and every member of the board, and officers of the corporation, former and present, are all dedicated volunteers and each in his or her unique way has made or is making Lifetime Networks Ottawa what it is today. To acknowledge anyone individually would destroy the collective dedication and commitment expressed by all. Thanks to all.
